Does painting one panel need less airflow?

Direct answer
No — painting one panel instead of several doesn't lower how much continuous air a given spray gun needs while you're spraying. It can change how long the job takes, not how hard your compressor has to work moment to moment.

What the gun itself needs

A spray gun like DeVilbiss Automotive Refinishing FLG Series and ANEST IWATA WIDER4 / W-400 family draws air at a fixed rate the whole time the trigger is pulled. That rate comes from the gun, not from how much surface is left to cover — painting one panel demands the same continuous airflow, gun in hand, as painting several.

What changes with project size

Project size does change something else: for one automotive panel, Garage currently validates an additional, lower-air-demand way to approach the job (for example, AEROPRO R500) — an option that isn't offered for 2–3 automotive panels in Garage's current model. That's a difference in which approach Garage currently supports for each scale, not a claim that the lower-air option is physically incapable of covering more panels.
